Rochester Man Requests Prison Over Probation
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man was recently sent to prison for felony drug convictions.
Court records show 34-year-old Daniel Guy Abbott requested that he be sent to prison after previously entering a petition to plead guilty through a deal that anticipated a stayed prison term and probation in exchange for guilty pleas to felony charges stemming from two incidents last year. He is now serving a 33-month sentence that will make him eligible for release in the spring of 2025.
The first incident occurred on April 5, 2022, and involved a traffic stop for illegal window tint and headlights. The criminal complaint says the officer recognized the passenger in the vehicle as Abott from previous narcotics-related contacts and arrested him for possession of a backpack that contained three baggies filled with more than 30 grams of methamphetamine. Abbott admitted to a third-degree drug charge in that case.
Court records indicate that five days later, on April 10, 2022, Abbott was caught possessing just over 2 grams of meth, multiple meth pipes, a scale, and multiple Ziploc baggies. The criminal complaint says his arrest in that case was also the result of a traffic stop for illegal window tint on a vehicle and resulted in a guilty plea to a fifth-degree drug charge.
Abbott previously served a prison sentence for a fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct conviction in Fillmore County in 2010. Court records show he was given an 18-month prison term in that case.
