What Is This Small, Red Bug Lurking in Minnesota Houses Right Now?

I feel like I'm being invaded right now.  Every morning, a small, red bug has been sitting next to my mirror in my bathroom.  I kill it and the next day, I see another one.  After chatting with some friends, I learned that my house in Minnesota wasn't the only one with a bit of an infestation.  But what is this bug?

Even though earwigs are nasty, I can handle being shocked by their visits at my house. By the end of summer, their visits usually end.  The newest bug that has been popping up in various spots in my house is one that I'm not fully comfortable with yet.

The newest bug that I'm seeing is small, somewhat redish, and just odd.  Here's a photo that I took of one that I caught in my bathroom.

Here's what I found out...it is a baby boxelder bug!

Boxelder bugs are a common nuisance in the state of Minnesota.  Most of us are familiar with the look of an adult boxelder bug.  A baby boxelder, also known as a nymph, is the little red animal that has been crawling around my house.

Are Boxelder Bugs Harmful to Humans

While boxelder bugs aren't fun to look at, they won't hurt humans.  They won't even bite you. 

The most damage that a boxelder bug will do is possibly stain fabric that is lighter.  It is a bit gross, since the stains would be from the boxelder bug feces.
