Minneapolis, MN (MinnesotaNow)-- Minneapolis police are investigating two deadly shootings that occurred just minutes apart on Monday night, leaving two men dead.

Police Chief Brian O’Hara expressed his concern over the surge of violence, emphasizing the department's dedication to holding those responsible accountable.

“Our officers and investigators are doing everything they can to determine the circumstances that led up to these fatal shootings,” O’Hara stated in a news release, while also commending first responders for their efforts under challenging winter conditions.

First Shooting: 3400 Block of 3rd Avenue South

Authorities say the first shooting happened around 9 p.m. on the 3400 block of 3rd Avenue South. Officers responding to reports of gunfire found a man in his 20s suffering from a critical gunshot wound.

Despite immediate medical assistance and transport to Hennepin Healthcare, the victim was pronounced dead. Police noted that a nearby home was struck by gunfire during the incident, though no additional injuries were reported.

Second Shooting: 3100 Block of Harriet Avenue

Shortly after, at about 9:10 p.m., officers were dispatched to an alley on the 3100 block of Harriet Avenue (about 1 mile northwest of the first shooting) where witnesses reported seeing a body being dumped from a vehicle.

Upon arrival, they discovered a man in his 30s with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, like the first, was rushed to Hennepin Healthcare but succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators have not yet confirmed whether the two shootings are connected, but they are working to explore any potential links.

No arrests have been made.
