Speed, Alcohol Suspected Factors in Minnesota Crash That Killed 2 (Update)

Floodwood, MN (KROC-AM News)- Authorities in northern Minnesota suspect speed and alcohol were factors in a crash that claimed two lives Saturday morning.
A news release from the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says dispatchers received an automated 911 call from an iPhone that said its owner had been involved in a serious crash. The call came in around 245 a.m.
Deputies responded to the scene of a single vehicle at a curve along Hwy. 8 near Floodwood, MN, which is about 45 miles west of Duluth. Upon arrival deputies found three people in the vehicle.
Two of the occupants were pronounced dead at the scene and a third was flown to a nearby hospital after being freed from the wreck and is now in stable condition, the news release says. The crash victims are 23-years-old.
The release of their names and hometowns are pending notification of their next of kin. The deadly crash is under investigation, however the preliminary investigation indicates speed and alcohol were contributing factors, the news release says.
