A chilling afternoon on Highway 23 turned serious when snow and ice led to a collision, leaving a young driver needing medical attention.

Snow and ice were on the two-lane highway at the time of the crash, the State Patrol says.

A pickup and semi were involved in the crash that preceded the alleged fleeing incident.

While the overall trend moved in a positive direction, fatalities still spiked at certain points throughout the year.

“Let's work together to make 2026 the safest year yet. Buckle up, put the phone away, and drive for the conditions,”

The deadly incident happened around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Each traffic incident was a single-vehicle crash.

First responders were called to the crash scene shortly after 9:30 a.m.

One passenger was also involved in the fatality.

Two vehicles were involved in the crash.
