Rochester Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Charge for Minnesota Man
Charges filed Thursday by the Olmsted County Attorney’s Office say a Rochester police officer on patrol late Wednesday morning in the area of Hwy. 52 and 65th St. Northwest stopped a vehicle with what's described as illegal window tint and neon-blue headlights. Two men were in the vehicle and the officer had recognized both of them from previous narcotics-related interactions.
The officer then asked the passenger, identified as 38-year-old Daniel Abbott of Spring Valley, to step out of the vehicle. The criminal complaint said Abbott admitted to illegal drugs being in the vehicle when asked by the officer.
Court documents say officer then searched the vehicle and found a bag that contained the following items:
Abbott was arrested and brought to the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center where he again admitted the items found in the backpack were his. He was charged with one count of second-degree drug possession.
Court records indicate Abbott was convicted for felony 4th-degree criminal sexual conduct in Fillmore County in 2008 and felony violation of requirements of a predatory offender in Fillmore County in 2010. His next court appearance is set for May 4.
