Rochester Man Accused of Stealing Pricey Bracelet from Macy’s
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Felony theft charges are mounting against a Rochester man with a criminal record that includes seven theft-related convictions.
Court documents filed Friday say Rochester police responded to Macy’s on Wednesday on the report of a jewelry theft. Staff at the store told officers two men came in to examine a bracelet and necklace when one of the men ran out of the store with a bracelet.
Officers reviewed surveillance footage and identified the alleged thief as 21-year-old Parker Atherton. The criminal complaint says store security footage tracked Atherton to the vehicle he and the other man came to the store in, which then left the property.
Officers investigating the theft at Macy’s were made aware of Atherton being arrested on suspicion of a vehicle theft Thursday evening and interviewed him regarding the jewelry theft at the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center. Atherton admitted to stealing the bracelet and giving it to the other man he was with to help the man pay for food and rent.
He said he was going to get the bracelet back to return to Rochester police. The complaint says the bracelet was valued at $2,850.
The Olmsted County Attorney’s Office filed a count of felony theft against Atherton in connection to the jewelry theft on Friday. Prosecutors also charged Atherton with felony theft, felony receiving stolen property and felony drug possession in the stolen vehicle case.
Atherton was also charged last September with a count of felony mail theft tied to a package theft in Rochester. Court records indicate the alleged vehicle and jewelry thefts occurred after Atherton posted $1,000 no cash bond last September.
An Olmsted County judge set his conditional bail at $12,000 on Friday. Jail records indicate Atherton remains in custody at the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center.
