Getting in and out of the largest airport in Minnesota just got easier, thanks to a new pick-up and drop-off lane that just opened.

Whether you're on vacation or on a trip for work, there are few things worse than getting caught in a long line on your way into the airport, right? A long line in the drop-off lane, before you even get into the airport, isn't just a miserable experience, it could also cause you to miss your flight.

That's why I was very interested in this new feature the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) just opened. It's a new Terminal 2 Express Lane, which is located on the second level of the Purple Ramp, the parking garage with convenient sky-bridge access to the MSP terminal.

In a release, MSP says that increased travel demand at Minnesota's largest airport routinely has caused an increase in vehicle traffic and that MSP often sees up to 800 vehicles per hour in the front of the terminal. That's a lot of cars, trucks and SUVs.

The Terminal 2 Express Lane will give travelers an alternative option, with the new loading and unloading zone inside the Purple Ramp. The new lane is able to accommodate approximately 200 vehicles per hour, the release said.

Terminal 2 at MSP is the terminal you'll use if you're flying on one of the following airlines:

  • Allegiant.
  • Condor.
  • Frontier.
  • Icelandair.
  • JetBlue.
  • Southwest.
  • Sun Country

MSP said the new Terminal 2 Express Lane is free and available 24 hours a day. After using the new express lane, travelers can then take the sky bridge to Terminal  2, which is closest to security checkpoint 2, one level above the ticketing lobby.
