Update: How Long Are TSA Lines at MSP Airport Right Now?
As the partial government shutdown drags on and more TSA agents call out sick, here's an update on how those wait times are faring in the security line at Minnesota's biggest airport.
This time of year in Minnesota, Spring Break travelers are usually flooding turnstiles at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, as much of March can often have some of the largest crowds of the year. But there's continued good news about TSA line wait times here in the North Star State.
MSP Airport Ranked Top U.S. Airport for Customer Satisfaction
You might recall a story I first wrote back in September, about how the 2025 Airport Satisfaction Survey from noted consumer research firm J.D. Power once again confirmed that the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) near Bloomington is the Top Airport in the U.S. for Customer Satisfaction.

And you also might recall a story I wrote last December about MSP unveiling the largest renovation of Terminal 1 in the airport's history. That project took over two years to complete and is something you'll definitely notice if you're flying out of Minnesota soon.

Long TSA Lines Are Now Affecting More Airports Across the U.S.
I also wrote a story 10 days ago about how wait times in the TSA security lines here in Minnesota compared to other airports. Then, in early March, it was first reported that TSA lines at several airports across the country were starting to become swamped with travelers, all of which led to massive wait times to get through those checkpoints.
KARE 11 reported then that the airports with the longest wait times in the TSA line were in places like Houston, Texas; New Orleans, Louisiana; and Atlanta, Georgia, where travelers faced extended wait times.

Since then, even more airports have been affected. CNN is tracking TSA wait times at major airports in the U.S. and, as of Friday, March 20, 2026, reported that the longest wait times-- a whopping two hours-- were still the case at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, while wait times of over an hour were reported in Atlanta. New York's LaGuardia and JFK Airports were also reported to have TSA line wait times of over 45 minutes.
TSA Lines at MSP Remain Fast Despite National Delays
But that's necessarily the case here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. According to the MSP Security Wait Times page at 12 noon on Friday, March 20, 2026, wait times were just 5 minutes or less at both the Terminal 1 North and South Gates. MSP's Terminal 2 also had wait times of 5 minutes or less.
I'm guessing those times could likely increase during the busier travel times in the morning or late afternoon, but even then, they are likely far less than wait times at other major U.S. airports!
And this *is* a busy time of the year at MSP, as KARE 11 confirmed in this story, noting that MSP officials were forecasting that around 3.3 million travelers will fly in and out of the airport during this year's spring break period, with the weekend of March 28 set to be the busiest weekend for travelers.
