Here we are in a place that some people may refer to as "fly over states".  We are the land of 10,000+ lakes and some very cold weather. That's what people think of when they think of Minnesota.  They seem to have no reference to the heat and humidity that we also experience.  In fact, are quite surprised when they find out that we have weather that can be much like Atlanta or some of the other Southern states that are not bordered by an ocean.

Many times shows that are supposedly in Minnesota will show something that more reflects some of the remote areas of Alaska.  Like we can't get around because of the 10 feet of snow that we have to deal with.

SHOWS WITH MINNESOTA REFERENCES

The first one that comes to mind is FARGO.  Both the movie and the TV series.  The movie, even though Fargo is in North Dakota, references a lot of things in Minnesota.  Joel and Ethan Coen are from Minneapolis.  They are well aware of the fact that "not everyone talks like that".  But, some people do.  It's regional, but you will sometimes hear that heavy of a Minnesota accent whether you like it or not.  If you move away for a bit of time, like a year, and then speak with people from Minnesota, you will hear it.

LOVE IS BLIND

I don't watch this show, but the latest season referenced Minnesota, with contestants from here too.

BACHELORETTE AND THE GOLDEN BACHELOR

A couple of the contestants on these shows were from Minnesota as well.  With the home visits, there were all sorts of Minnesota references and scenes.

LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE

The whole series was based in Minnesota

COACH

The series was based on a college football team - Minnesota State (Mankato)

HONORABLE MENTION:

How I Met Your Mother had the character Marshall originally from Minnesota, and even more specifically, St. Cloud, Minnesota.  As does the Golden Girls. Rose, played by Betty White, went to college at St. Olaf.

And most recently, the show DOC which is on the FOX network, is based in Minneapolis.  This show is in its second season, with the premiere episode airing last Sunday.
