Charges Filed After Man Found Dead in Crashed Car in Minneapolis

Minneapolis, MN (MinnesotaNow) — Two people have been arrested and charged in connection with the April 19 shooting death of a man on Minneapolis’s Northside, Minneapolis Police announced Monday.

20-year-old Jayce Nasir Cuff was arrested in St. Paul on May 2 and booked into the Hennepin County Jail, according to a press release issued by MPD.

Cuff has been charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder with intent (not premeditated) and remains in custody.

Also on May 2, a 17-year-old boy was arrested in Brooklyn Center and booked into the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center. He faces the same charge and also remains in custody.

According to charging documents, both Cuff and the juvenile are alleged to have been shooters in the case, the MPD press release says.

Police Say Teen, Man Opened Fire Outside Minneapolis Apartment

The incident occurred around 10:17 p.m. on April 19, when officers responded to reports of gunfire on the 2000 block of West River Road North. Officers found a man in his 20s with a fatal gunshot wound inside a vehicle that had crashed into the garage entrance of a large apartment building. Evidence of gunfire was also found in the parking lot.

“This targeted attack showed a complete disregard for the sanctity of human life,” said Chief O’Hara. “That an adult and at least one juvenile appear to be involved in this apparent hit is especially troubling.”

The April 19 shooting marked the first homicide in Minneapolis since February 15 and the city’s first shooting death since February 7, according to police.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has not yet released the identity of the victim.
