Café Steam Expands Again: 4th Rochester Location Is Officially on the Way
Some good news popped up in Rochester on the last day of the 2025 year. One of Rochester's favorite spots to grab a cup of coffee in the Med City is opening up another location. If you are a coffee lover like me, below is the latest info on this exciting news.
Local Coffee Shop In Rochester Just Announced The Opening Of A New Location
If you are someone who craves a good cup of coffee, you aren't alone. According to PRNewswire.com, about 66% of adults in the United States drink at least one cup of coffee every day. Based on data from the National Coffee Data Trends, those who are enjoying that cup drink an average of 3 cups of coffee a day.
A few months ago, I went on a Caffeine Crawl around town and one of the stops was the Cafe Steam location on Broadway. This is a pretty regular spot for me but for others in the group, this was their first time walking inside to see this unique and trendy spot that up on January 13th, 2015. According to Rochestermnart.org, the vision for this original shop was "to create a café that catered to the Rochester community and that could host meetings of students, business groups, and friends…maybe even a few first dates."
The spot on Broadway isn't the only location for Cafe Steam. It was just about a year ago when the popular coffee shop made the move from the One Discovery Square building to the Two Discovery Square location.
For those who love to walk the halls of the Skyway, you can find the third spot for Cafe Steam in the Skyway at 150 S Broadway, Suite 201.
Thanks to the latest news on December 31st 2025, it appears that a new Cafe Steam location is opening soon.
Big things coming to 2nd Street. 2026 is going to be an incredible year ✌️

Cafe Steam Opening New Location on 2nd Street in Rochester, Minnesota
If you were around Rochester this past summer and fall, you probably heard a lot of complaints about the construction in the downtown area. Not only was the North Broadway project causing havoc to drivers but at one point, 2nd Street SW, Hwy 14 by the Apache Mall, a section of road by Olmsted Medical Center Hospital, parts of Broadway, and multiple roads downtown were either all closed or down to one lane. During this extra busy construction season in Rochester, several businesses announced that closing was their demise, including the Caribou Coffee at 1147 Second Street SW in July.
For those who have been missing that stop on 2nd Street to grab a cup of coffee, it sounds like Cafe Steam will be opening up in this old Caribou spot sometime during the Spring of 2026.
As soon as I hear an update on its opening, I'll share the news on Y-105FM, a local radio station in Rochester, and on my Facebook page, Jessica On The Radio. Follow both of those for free news and updates about what's happening in the community.
