Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - A motorcyclist was killed last night in a crash near downtown Minneapolis.

The State Patrol says the victim was driving north on I-35W and lost control as a car was attempting to merge back onto the freeway from the right shoulder. Troopers reported that the motorcycle then collided with the rear of the car, which sent the motorcycle careening towards the left shoulder of the roadway.

The deadly incident was reported just before 10:30 PM at the Washington Avenue interchange a few blocks east of US Bank Stadium.

The deceased motorcyclist was identified as 61-year-old Gordon Zieman of New Brighton.

The State Patrol says the 20-year-old Cottage Grove man driving the car was not injured.
