Elko New Market, MN (KROC-AM News) - A man was killed last night when he was struck by a vehicle after he wiped out while driving an all-terrain vehicle on a rural highway south of Lakeville.

The Scott County Sheriff's Office says deputies responded just before 10 p.m. to a report of an injury crash on County Road 46 just east of Elko New Market. When they arrived, they found a 28-year-old man from New Market Township had been severely injured after crashing his ATV.

A news release says the preliminary investigation indicates the all-terrain vehicle overturned after the man turned onto the county road from a gravel road. He was lying on the pavement in the southbound lane when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a 22-year-old woman from Northfield.

The Sheriff's Office says the ATV driver was transported to Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, where he died from his injuries. His name has not been released.

The young woman driving the other vehicle was not hurt.

The deadly incident remains under investigation by the Scott County Sheriff's Office and the Minnesota State Patrol.
