Woman Arrested at Airport Indicted in Feeding Our Future Case
Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - A federal grand jury indictment connected to the $250 million Feeding Our Future fraud scheme has been handed down against a woman who was arrested at the Twin Cities airport as she was about to board a flight to Dubai earlier this week.
The U.S. Attorney's Office for Minnesota says 50-year-old Hibo Daar is the 71st person to be charged in the case. Court documents state the Twin Cities woman owned and operated a business known as the Northside Wellness Center and enrolled it in the federal child nutrition program under the sponsorship of Feeding Our Future.
She is Accused of Fraudulently Claiming to Serve 40,000 Meals Per Week
“As we have said, the U.S. Attorney’s Office is not stopping. We will continue to investigate and charge defendants who defrauded the government in the Feeding Our Future case—the largest COVID fraud scheme in the country and the single largest case charged in the history of this office,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa D. Kirkpatrick. “Our work is not done.”
It is alleged that Daar fraudulently submitted documentation claiming her company served approximately 40,000 meals a week to children at the Northside Wellness Center and a small park along Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis. Federal prosecutors say she submitted over $2.4 million in reimbursement claims, and more than $1.7 million in public funds were deposited into a bank account controlled by Daar.

The indictment alleges that Daar used only a small portion of those funds to purchase food and that she transferred most of the money to family, associates, and herself. She is also accused of paying $72,000 in bribes to an employee of the Feeding Our Future organization.
