Two Injured, One Arrested in Downtown Austin, MN Shooting
Austin, MN (KROC-AM News)- Two people were hurt and one man was arrested as the result of a shooting reported in downtown Austin Saturday morning.
A news release issued Monday Morning by Austin Police Chief David McKichan says officers were dispatched to the report of an assault in the Plaza Parking Lot shortly after 12:30 a.m. Upon arrival officers found a man who appeared to have been shot in the shoulder and leg.
The apparent gunshot victim was treated by first responders at the scene then turned over to Mayo Clinic Ambulance for further care. His status as of Monday morning has not been disclosed.
McKichan says a second gunshot victim would later check into the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Austin for treatment of a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg. Officers then located the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Hector Ubaldo Serrano-Maldonado, about three hours after responding to the shooting.
He was taken into custody without incident at a residence in the 200 block of 7th St. Northwest. Officers later recovered a firearm that was believed to have been used to carry out the shooting, the news release says.
Serrano-Maldonado was booked into the Mower County Jail on suspicion of felony first-degree assault. His arraignment hearing in Mower County Court has not yet been scheduled.
McKichan says the shooting is under investigation.
