Tuition, Mandatory Student Fees to Increase at U of M Rochester
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Students at the University of Minnesota in Rochester will see an increase in tuition and mandatory student fees.

The University of Minnesota Board of Regents approved the University of Minnesota System’s annual operating budget during a meeting Monday. The budget increases tuition across all five U of M campuses and raises mandatory student fees at four of the five campuses across the state.
Mandatory student fees at the University of Minnesota-Rochester (UMR) will increase from $168 per semester to $377 per semester. The 124% fee increase is by far the largest change regarding student fees across the system and brings student fees at UMR from the lowest in the system last year to the third-highest in the five campus system.
Materials from the meeting say the fee increase, which was recommended by a student-majority committee then approved by UMR leadership, will go towards an expansion of "student services including new recreation facilities, intercultural center space, staffing and programming, mental health care and other health and wellbeing programs."
The board approved hiking tuition at the U of M’s Rochester and Twin Cities campuses by 3.5%. Tuition at the Duluth, Morris and Crookston campuses will rise by 1%.
Board members also approved a merit-based faculty and staff pay increase as high as 3.75%. The new tuition rates and fees will take effect for the Fall 2023 semester.
