Thousands of Dollars Worth of Jewelry Reported Stolen in Rochester Burglary
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Rochester family reported thousands of dollars worth of jewelry was taken from their home as the result of an apparent burglary over the weekend.
Rochester Police Captain Casey Moilanen says officers responded to the burglary Sunday evening. It was believed to have occurred while the family was not home between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m.
The reported burglary occurred at a residence in the 1400 block of 41st St. Northwest. Moilanen said a family member returned home around 9 p.m. and found the residence’s back patio door was open and the lock was broken, which wasn’t the case when the family left.
Inside the family member found open cabinet doors and an estimated $6,000 worth of jewelry missing. Moilanen says police are investigating the break-in and that so far no arrests have been made.
The Rochester Police Captain also offered some tips to help residents deter burglars while they’re not home. He suggests:
- Ensuring all doors into the home are locked
- Making it appear as though someone is home
- Buy security or doorbell cameras if you can afford them
- Look out for your neighbor and report suspicious activity to law enforcement
