Northland

Rapid warming is triggering flooding over the South Shore of Lake Superior, and temperatures near 70F (inland) later today will accelerate runoff and flooding across much of the Northland. Cooler weather, and a little slush, is shaping up for the weekend.

I have been trained to avoid yellow snow, but what about brown snow? Dust from Mexico got vacuumed into our snowfall yesterday with reports of brown snow. Whatever the color, much of the snow will finally melt in the coming weeks as a fast-forward thaw arrives.

I can't say I'm feeling lucky, but with any luck next week's storm may be the last major winter storm of the season. It's still early, but a combination of ice, snow and high winds may result in treacherous travel conditions by the middle of next week, with blizzard or near-blizzard conditions a very real possibility. The Winter That Wouldn't End isn't over just yet.
