The Minnesota Supreme Court has agreed to hear a Rochester man's appeal of his conviction and prison sentence involving a gunfight on a city street.

He is now serving a life sentence for the 2023 death of the Winona woman.

A court filing indicates the dismissal of the felony charge was a direct result of the Minnesota Supreme Court ruling.

The ruling was issued just days after the Minnesota Court of Appeals upheld a state law involving so-called "ghost guns."

He was given consecutive life prison sentences following the ax murders of his parents and 2 younger siblings in 1988.

He is currently serving a 12 1/2 year prison sentence.

The ruling stems from a woman's arrest outside a Rochester convenience store in 2021.
