Two Charged After Deadly Street Racing Crash in Dakota County
Eagan, MN (KROC-AM News) - Charges have been filed in connection with a recent deadly street racing incident in Dakota County.
A news release issued by the Dakota County Attorney's Office says 19-year-old Reed Schultz and 18-year-old Finian Cronin were both fatally injured on the night of June 14 in a multi-vehicle crash near the intersection of Highway 55 and Highway 149 in Eagan. They were in a Jeep that smashed into a utility pole in a collision that severed the vehicle into two pieces.
According to the criminal complaint, surveillance video recordings from the Minnesota Department of Transportation showed three vehicles traveling south on Highway 149 at a high rate of speed. Just before the intersection with Highway 55, the drivers of the Jeep and another car lost control and went across the concrete median before the Jeep collided with the pole around 11:20 p.m.

The driver of the other car that lost control and the driver of a third vehicle have now been criminally charged. The Dakota County Attorney's Office says 24-year-old Melody Linda Little of West St. Paul and 20-year-old Jordan John Weiland of White Bear Lake each face two counts of third-degree murder and two counts of criminal vehicular homicide.

The criminal complaint says Weiland told investigators they were part of a group of five to ten vehicles at a "car meet-up" in South St. Paul prior to the deadly crash. The court document also indicates that cell phone data determined the vehicles were speeding at approximately 110 mph.
