St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is leading the investigation into an officer-involved shooting that ended with two people wounded and the gunman taking his own life in a St. Paul grocery store on Friday.

A news release issued by the St. Paul Police Department says officers responded around 11:40 AM to a report that a gun had been fired at a St. Paul home. It was reported that the shooter had left the residence on foot with a young child.

A search was launched, and St. Paul police say the suspect and the child were spotted at an Aldi grocery store, where they were found inside the business. The news release says officers attempted to speak with the man, but he shoved them and ran away.

As he ran to the front of the store, officials say the man brandished a handgun and pointed it at the officers, which resulted in an exchange of gunfire inside the store. No one was hurt, and the child was found unharmed.

At that point, St. Paul police say the man fled to a nearby Cub Foods location with officers in pursuit. While running past a café, officials say he shot and wounded two women. They were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

St. Paul police reported that as the man ran through the Cub Foods parking lot, an officer fired multiple shots in his direction before he entered the building. Additional officers and members of the St. Paul Police SWAT team then responded to the scene.

According to the news release, officers located the gunman inside the store and attempted to negotiate with him, but the situation ended when the man shot and killed himself. His name has not been released.

St. Paul police say all officers involved were wearing activated body cameras.
