Updated for 2025, this year's list of Minnesota's safest cities shows some impressive strides in public safety, with no city reporting more than one violent crime per 1,000 residents.
The #1 safest city in Minnesota has held that title for three consecutive years now, with zero violent crimes and zero property crimes reported. It's also worth noting that all 20 of the cities listed below had no reported murders.

According to crime stats from Safewise, the violent and property crime rates across Minnesota are below the national averages.
Nationwide, the violent crime rate is 4 incidents per 1,000 people. In Minnesota, the violent crime rate is 3.4 incidents per 1,000 people, ranking as the 15th lowest in the country. The property crime rate nationwide is 20.7. Minnesota's property crime rate is 19.9.
What Are the Most Used Security Measures in Minnesota?
According to Safewise, the most used security measure in Minnesota is security cameras. The second most used is guard dogs, followed by firearms. Combine all three and you have a suitable trifecta of protection.

The rankings are based on reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) and reported property crimes (burglary, larceny-theft, and vehicle theft). To keep the rankings as fair as possible among different size populations, the crime rates listed are per 1,000 residents in each city.
