Roads Around Evacuated Rochester Condos Closed Through Monday
Update 6/5/23: 2nd St. Southwest has been reopened.
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The roads surrounding a Rochester condominium complex that was evacuated Friday night due to structural concerns will remain closed for multiple days.
About 180 residents were displaced from their homes at the Rochester Towers Condominium at 207 5th Ave. Southwest. The evacuation was prompted by the results of an inspection from a structural engineer.
After the evacuation, Rochester first responders turned the scene over to property management and private crews to make the needed repairs. The repair work requires the complete closure of 2nd St. southwest from 4th Ave. to 6th Ave. Southwest.
The northbound lane of 5th Ave. Southwest is also closed at 3rd St. Southwest. Officials say the closures will be in place at least through Monday. Traffic traveling in and out of downtown Rochester is being detoured to Civic Center Dr. during the closure.
