Rebate Checks Coming For Millions of Minnesotans
The so-called "Walz checks" will be sent out soon although they'll be much less than originally thought. At one time, there was talk that these rebate checks would be $1,000 for individuals and up to $2,600 for families. Read how much the one-time payments will actually be and find out if you're eligible below.
$1.1 billion will be sent to more than 2.5 million residents.
A Minnesota tax law update signed back in May included rebate checks for millions of Minnesotans.
The Minnesota Department of Revenue will be sending direct tax rebate payments for tax year 2021 to millions of qualifying Minnesotans:
- Married couples that filed a joint return and made $150,000 or less will receive a one-time payment of $520
- Individuals that made $75,000 or less will get a check for $260
- An additional $260 will be added to the rebate for each dependent (up to 3) claimed on your tax return. The additional payment for dependents is capped at $780
How To Make Sure You Receive Your Payment
The Minnesota Department of Revenue is currently reviewing 2021 income tax and/or property tax refund returns and will send payments to those who qualify. You do not need to apply for payment.
Rebate checks will be deposited directly into your bank account or a check will be mailed to the address listed on your 2021 return.
If you have moved or switched banks since 2021, you have until July 28 to update your information through the state's secure online portal.
