Olmsted County Mourning Loss of Young K-9
K9 Ranger had been serving the sheriff’s office since 2020. The Belgian Malinois had been trained in narcotics and patrol work.
A news release issued Wednesday morning by the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office says Ranger and his handler were practicing for an upcoming training seminar in the Twin Cities this past weekend. Ranger’s handler, Corporal Heime, then noticed Ranger wasn’t acting like himself.
Ranger was then taken to an emergency veterinarian hospital where he died of his illness. Olmsted County Sheriff’s Captain Tim Parkin said of Ranger, “During his tenure with us, he assisted deputies honorably in several patrol related calls and made credible contributions to Law Enforcement efforts. On behalf of all of us at the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office, we extend our sincerest condolences to K9 Ranger’s family. Ranger was taken way before his time.”
Ranger was four years old.
