Another Legendary Minnesota Music Act Added To Mystic Lake Amphitheater’s Opening Night
Minnesota's newest outdoor music venue opens very soon, and they're going all-in on an all-Minnesota theme for the first night of entertainment. That opening night just got a little bigger.
Back at the beginning of May, I shared details about Mystic Lake Amphitheater in the Twin Cities and their plans for an opening night event called "Setting The Stage".
While this summer's lineup of 40 nights of live entertainment that includes huge acts across genres like Chris Stapleton, Kesha, Guns N' Roses, Pitbull, Iron Maiden, Lil Wayne, and more, the very first show will focus on the Land of 10,000 Lakes.
Up until this week, the biggest name on the all-Minnesota lineup for the June 20 "Setting the Stage" event was arguably Motion City Soundtrack. Hosted by Minnesota comedian and SNL cast member Tommy Brennan, the other music acts that had previously been announced were popular regional acts Ber, and Rocket Club, with students from the School of Rock in the Twin Cities also performing.
This week, event organizers announced that Morris Day and the Time will be the headlining act for this Minnesota variety show happening on Saturday, June 20.
Morris Day attended the same high school as Prince, playing music together. Day also played a role in Prince's film Purple Rain, and the formation of his band, The Time, came with help from Prince.

Organizers also announced today (June 11) that DJ Jake Rudh will join the lineup for "Setting The Stage".
These recent additions expand the music lineup for a show that will only cost $20-$24 per ticket to attend, and the whole night has a charitable component to it. A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit The Salt Cure Restaurant Recovery Fund, supporting Minnesota's restaurant workers and businesses.
This night of music and comedy runs from 6 pm until 11 pm on Saturday, June 20.
After this event, a busy summer is ahead for the new music venue. Here's a look at the extensive schedule:
