Minnesota Teen Killed in Accidental Shooting
Moorhead, MN (KROC-AM News) - Police in Moorhead say a shooting that claimed the life of a 13-year-old boy was accidental.
A news release indicates 13-year-old Zain Mezher was fatally shot Friday night at a park in the northwestern Minnesota city while a group of juveniles was handling a handgun. An investigation determined the firearm was accidentally discharged and the bullet struck the Moorhead teenager. The gun was recovered at the scene.
An autopsy later determined Mezher's death was caused by a single gunshot wound. The fatal incident was reported in a wooded area adjacent to a park located next to the Minnesota State University-Moorhead campus.
Moorhead Police say the investigation is ongoing and active with assistance from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Any decisions concerning potential criminal charges will be handled by the Clay County Attorney's Office once the investigation is finished.
