A news release from the Minneapolis Police Department says officers responded to the report of a suspicious vehicle with a person slumped over inside. The call came in around 3:30 p.m.

Officials say the suspect driver, identified as 27-year-old Presley Aaron Peltier, struggled with officers once they informed him of his arrest after learning the suspicious vehicle had stolen license plates. At one point, Peltier put the vehicle in drive while an officer was partially trapped by the driver’s side door in an attempt to wrestle him out of the vehicle.

The news release says the vehicle dragged the officer a short distance until it slammed into a support pillar of a nearby structure. The officer rolled away from the vehicle to avoid being run over as Peltier backed it up and fled the scene.

The injured officer and other officers at the scene initiated a pursuit that was later terminated once they lost sight of the suspect vehicle. The injured officer took himself to a hospital where he was evaluated for what are being described as non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are asking the public to report any information regarding the incident and/or Peltier. Court records indicate Peltier has been convicted of felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon in Hennepin County in 2018 and felony second-degree possession of burglary tools in 2018 in Dakota County.
