Minnesota’s First ‘Dirty Pop’ Shop is So Popular They Have a Warning For Customers
There’s a buzz in Minnesota you can’t ignore. It’s the kind of excitement that has people talking, lining up, and sharing their experiences all over social media, which ultimately prompted the owner of the new shop to post a warning to incoming customers.
What started as a humble idea has become a full-blown phenomenon, drawing crowds from near and far. Let’s just say, whatever you think you know about soda… you don’t. This place is changing the game.
What’s Dirty Pop? The Trendy Treat Taking Over Minnesota
It's a little spot in Maple Grove that’s taking Minnesota by storm. It’s called Sota, and they’re serving up something so fun and unique it’s getting a TON of attention.
Ever heard of “dirty sodas”? Basically, they’re soda (or pop as we say here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes) combos with a twist; think Coke with coconut and lime or root beer with vanilla cream and raspberry. I’m telling you, it’s like happiness in a cup!
Sota didn’t start as the bustling hotspot it is today. A couple of years ago, they were just a food truck rolling around the Twin Cities, introducing Minnesotans to this quirky soda craze that’s big out in Utah. One of these soda shops in Utah was recently shown on an episode of the popular Hulu series "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives" adding even more excitement surrounding the new trend.
Minnesota's First 'Dirty Pop' Shop Swaps Wheels For Walls, Goes Viral
Chad Taylor, the guy behind it all, saw how these drinks lit up people’s faces and decided to go all in. Fast forward to December 2, and they opened Minnesota’s very first “dirty pop” brick-and-mortar location at 13630 Grove Drive in Maple Grove.
Now, here’s the kicker: as soon as they opened, the place exploded.
Local news covered the story, and social media posts about their drinks went completely viral. We’re talking lines out the door, and the kind of excitement that makes you want to drop everything and see what the fuss is about.
It’s been such a whirlwind that Chad even had to post a thank-you message on Facebook, along with a heads-up: “Be prepared for long lines!” Their website has a note too, saying, “Due to Viral Posts, Lines May Be Longer Than Usual — Thank You for Understanding.”
It’s not just about the drinks, though. It’s the whole vibe. It’s the joy of trying something new, the nostalgic throwback to simpler times, and the way this little shop has brought the community together. People aren’t just going for the sodas; they’re going for the experience.

Something that makes the experience even more fun is all of their drinks are named after songs from the 90s. It’s a nostalgic touch that makes every sip feel like a blast from the past. On their website, they explain:
We grew up in the 90’s. Maybe you did too. Or maybe your parents raised you on 90’s music. Whatever the reason, let’s raise a glass (or sota), to the decade that brought us grunge, alt, hip hop, oversized clothing, puka shell necklaces, and Doc Martins.
If you’re thinking of checking it out (and honestly, you should), just know you might have to wait. But hey, isn’t the best stuff always worth it?
