Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - Minneapolis police are investigating the deaths of a brother and sister in what officials say was a domestic dispute that escalated into gunfire early today.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara says officers responded to a report of a shooting at a home just before 12:40 a.m. When they arrived at the scene, they found a man and a woman, both in their 20s, dead from gunshot wounds. Another woman, in her 40s, had also been shot and was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A news release indicates the deceased individuals were a brother and sister, and the wounded woman was their mother. A preliminary investigation suggests the evidence shows the two women were shot, and it appears the deceased man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“This appears to be a heartbreaking tragedy that has destroyed a family,” said Chief O’Hara. “While the investigation is ongoing, our hearts are with the surviving family members as we work to understand what occurred.”

Chief O'Hara says investigators are continuing to work on determining the sequence of events leading up to the deadly shootings.
