Valentines Day Can Be Expensive to Celebrate in Minnesota!
I had a former morning show partner who would always say he was “celebrating Valentines Day under protest” because it isn’t a real holiday. Steve had the stance that it was made up to sell flowers, candy and greeting cards.

Whether you share his sentiments or not, it could be a dangerous situation to feel that is a hill worth dying on. For some people, Valentine’s Day ranks up there when it comes to giving the right gift.
That means there is a sense of pressure to not screw it up.
If you’re going to go all out for the “day of love” in Minnesota, it’s likely to cost you “pretty penny”, especially if you are wanting a romantic overnight stay. And that’s not just me saying that; this information is from a PR firm which is a division of Journo Research.
Their findings say that Minnesota is the sixth most expensive state for a romantic getaway on Valentines Day. This data was devised after they compared each state by five categories.
Those categories are number of “romantic” hotels per 100,000 people, average rating of said “romantic” hotels, average price per night of the 10 cheapest “romantic” hotels, number of “romantic” restaurants per 100,000 people, and the average rating of those restaurants.
Each of these metrics carried 18.4% weight except for the average price for the 10 cheapest hotels. It carried a score of 26.3%.
Minnesota trailed only New York, Oklahoma, North Dakota, New Jersey, and Kansas in the most expensive category. The rest of the top 10 expensive “getaway states” are Indiana, Delaware, Maryland, and Ohio.
For example, in New York, a one-night stay is 576.75% more expensive than the rest of the of the country, at $1, 615.21. Remember, Minnesota is just five spots behind New York. Wyoming is the most affordable state, and their average hotel stay is $169.69.
The 10 most affordable states for a Valentines Day getaway are Wyoming, Maine, Vermont, Hawaii (seems odd to be honest), Montana, Oregon, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, and South Carolina.
So, if you can’t or don’t want to pay a really high price for Valentines Day, you might want to start getting creative with how to turn your home into a romantic getaway now, so the plan is in place for the big day.
