Seemingly every Minnesota town has a cleverly named annual festival. In the area where I grew up, Burnsville had the Fire Muster festival, Lakeville had the Pan-O-Prog (Panorama of Progress) festival and Apple Valley had its "Freedom Days" festival.

Here in Central Minnesota, Waite Park has Spass-Tag, St. Cloud has Granite City Days... you get the idea.

In Farmington they celebrated "Mountain Dew Days," which began when Pepsi-Cola announced that the city "drank more Mountain Dew per capita than any other United States city" in 1979.

In 1997 the festival was renamed to 'Founder's Days' for a couple of years before reverting to the now-shortened 'Dew Days,' which continued through 2024.

This year the city is ditching the Dew Days name and partnering with Kemps, which has had a Farmington location for nearly 100 years, to rename the festival.

The new name? Top-the-Tater days!
