Popular MN Gas Station Chain Now Has The Best Food In The U.S.

Minnesota might be known for lakes and hot dishes, but gas station food? Believe it or not, one chain with over 250 locations across the state is serving up meals so good, it’s earned the title of best gas station food in the entire country.

Minnesota may have 10,000 Lakes, but did you know that the North Star State is also home to over 3,200 gas stations? Research site Poidata indicates that there are 3,279 gas stations currently operating in Minnesota. Minneapolis has 158, with St. Paul being home to 135 of them.

But only one chain has just been named the gas station with the best food in the U.S. That's the word from this Chowhound article, which took a look at those familiar convenience stores that not only fill your tank, but also fill your tummy with some amazing eats.

And according to Chowhound, the gas station chain with the best food in the entire country is... Kwik Trip! That's right, Kwik Trip isn't only one of the most popular convenience stores in the upper Midwest these days, it also has the best food.

The familiar chain opened its first store in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, in 1965. Its corporate headquarters are located in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and Kwik Trip says as of February 2025, it operates 898 separate convenience stores, which are spread among six different states:​

• Wisconsin​
• Minnesota​
• Iowa​
• Illinois​
• South Dakota​
• Michigan

There are approximately 217 Kwik Trip locations open across the Bold North, each offering amazing food that Chowhound claims is the best in the U.S.

Specifically, Chowhound states that Kwik Trip's Dunkers, a variety of donuts, rival those from Krispy Kreme. Additionally, their hot food bar features favorites such as boneless chicken wings in three different flavors, excellent rotisserie chicken, and outstanding macaroni and cheese, all of which are unmatched, Chowhound says.

Kwik Trip is a massive chain that employs over 35,000 people and has its own bakery, kitchens, dairy, distribution, and transportation divisions. These allow Kwik Trip to produce many of the food items it serves, which are then delivered to each local Kwik Trip store fresh every day.
