Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle is a phrase we've been taught from a young age. Reduce the number of things you throw out, Reuse what you can, and Recycle anything that can have a new life, like clothes that don't fit anymore could be donated to a thrift store for someone else to wear.

And just announced today, Minnesota-based Target is helping us Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle with their new 'Denim Take Back' program. It's similar to their car seat trade-in program.

Target's Car Seat Trade-In Program

Since 2016 Target has been doing their car seat trade-in program. During a specific week, you can bring in an old car seat to Target and they'll give you a 20% off coupon for a "new car seat, car seat base, travel system or stroller, or select baby home gear."

Between 2016 and 2023, 2.6 million car seats have been recycled through this program. That equates to 39.7 million pounds of car seat materials that have been recycled and kept from landfills.

2024's car seat trade-in program took place in April.

Target's new denim take-back program is the same idea.

Target's New Denim Take Back Program

During the week of August 4th through the 10th, you can bring in any jeans to your local Target and get a 20% off coupon to use to buy new jeans.

They can really be any jeans, they don't have to be Target brand, and they can be super worn, too, that doesn't matter. You can bring in up to 5 pairs of jeans.

With the 20% off coupon, that can be used on any Target brand "denim apparel", like Universal Thread, Wild Fable, Goodfellow, and Cat and Jack. It can also be used on Levis. You have to use the deal during the week of August 4th through the 10th, though.

What Happens to the Donated Jeans?

Once the program is over, the "materials from the denim will be recycled and repurposed by Target's partners." It keeps jeans out of landfills and gets new jeans in your closet for a good deal!
