There are some new changes that have been officially approved for Minnesota's Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. One of these changes will make a big difference for people needing to catch a connecting flight.

Changes Coming to MSP

These changes and improvements were just approved a few days ago by the Metropolitan Airport Commission, according to Bring Me the News.

All of the changes will happen over the next many years, so don't expect to see anything right away when you head to MSP next. And when I say 'many years' I mean it. They're calling this plan the 2040 Long-Term Plan, so they plan to have all of these projects done by the year 2040.

Some of these projects include adding new gates to the south side of Terminal 2 and extending the G concourse in Terminal 1. They also will be reconstructing Concourses E and F in Terminal 1 and work to improve traffic congestion outside the terminals.

But what I think will be the biggest change is a connection between Terminals 1 and 2.

New Connection Between Terminals 1 and 2 at MSP

Right now, if you want to get between Terminals 1 and 2 you need to leave past security and either take a car or hop on the Light Rail to get to the other terminal, and then go through security again.

It's not the easiest thing ever, especially since you have to deal with going through security again. However, it sounds like this plan will add another option to getting between the terminals.

Bring the News mentions that the planning for all of these projects is in the early stages so not many details are known right now, but we do know that this connection between Terminals 1 and 2 would be post-security, so you wouldn't need to go through security again. Now that would be super nice if you have a short amount of time to catch a connecting flight!

Again, no official plans have been released yet but I'm hoping that connection and the traffic congestion projects are top of the list.
