It's time to hit the lake! And as we know, Minnesota has tons of options. We're not the Land of 10,000 Lakes for nothing. But sometimes when lists are created of the best lakes or best lake towns in the country we get jipped.

Not this time, though! A new list from Thrillist came out of the 'greatest lake towns to visit this summer' and two Minnesota lake towns made the cut. I think there should be way more than two but I may or may not be biased.

Best Lake Towns in The Midwest

Before we get to Minnesota's, there were also a couple of lake towns that made the list from neighboring states.

Arnolds Park, IA made the list. I had never heard of Arnolds Park until now. It's located on the northwest side of the state and unsurprisingly it's right by Okoboji. So that's why the made the list!

I've heard so many great things about Okoboji but I have yet to go. Maybe this is a sign to plan a trip!

Also making the list of the best lake towns in the US is Lake Geneva, WI. That's located on the southeast side of the state, a little less than an hour from Milwaukee.

Now let's talk about the Minnesota towns on the list!

Minnesota's Best Lake Towns

Up first on the list is Ely, MN. Definitely not surprising. They've got the Boundry Waters, if they didn't make the list that would be really weird.

"It’s an endless medley of interconnected streams, lakes, and waterfalls landscaped by cliffs, ridges, ancient Native American rock art, 1,200-year-old cedars, and soaring white pines."

And the second Minnesota lake town on the list is Grand Marais. Also not surprising! A cute little town right on Lake Superior, how could you go wrong?

"Sometimes a lake town is as much about the journey as the destination. And yes, this town just a stone’s throw from Ontario is one of the jewels of Lake Superior."
