2025 has been dubbed the year of the road trip. Southern Living says, "Air travel is certainly going nowhere, but a combination of factors, economic and otherwise, are making road trips even more popular with travelers."

Popular road trip destinations for Minnesotans include Valleyfair, Duluth and the North Shore, Wisconsin Dells, and Chicago. But before hitting the road, you've got to make a stop at the gas station for snacks.

Do you have a favorite? I always grab a Big Buddy at Kwik Trip and a package of peanut M&Ms. Kroger, the grocery giant, recently conducted a study to find the most popular gas station snack in Minnesota—and across the country.

Minnesota’s favorite snack didn’t even make the top five. Delish published Kroger's study, which found the most popular gas station snacks in America are Rice Krispies Treats, Beef Jerky, Taquitos, Chex Mix, and Snickers.

Rice Krispies Treats are the most popular gas station food in America?!? They are delicious, and I’ve bought them before, but they’re definitely not my top pick. And, they’re not Minnesota’s go-to snack either.

Minnesotans love Cool Ranch Doritos, which have been around for nearly 40 years. They hit store shelves in 1986 and quickly became a fan favorite.

If you love chips, you have to check out the new and very unique chip that Kwik Trip rolled out early this month. When the La Crosse-based chain, with locations in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, South Dakota, and Michigan, started promoting their new chips, people didn't believe they were real.

To find out more about how has the price of gas changed throughout the years, Stacker ran the numbers on the cost of a gallon of gasoline for each of the last 84 years. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (released in April 2020), we analyzed the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline from 1976 to 2020 along with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for unleaded regular gasoline from 1937 to 1976, including the absolute and inflation-adjusted prices for each year.
