Just over a year ago, a bit of happy news hit Minnesota when word got out about a brand new roller rink opening. Unfortunately, it sounds like this fun spot to roll around is now closing.

Another Business Is Now Closing in Minnesota

Fun Fact: 1880 was the time frame for the first roller skating rink in Minnesota...but that was just the start for this fun hobby.

1937 to 1959 was the next big peak for this rolling adventure and the guess is that about 18 million Americans were lacing up their skates during this boom. About 5,000 roller rinks were operating throughout the United States during this era as well.

When the disco era began in 1977, THE place to bring your bell bottom self was the roller skating rink. The excitement died off a little bit, but then around 1991, this rolling trend became popular again thanks to the Minnesotan who invented Rollerblades.

Roller skating didn't die once the internet came alive.  If you were watching the Super Bowl in 2024, you probably saw Usher and his crew skating on stage.  He even used a Minnesota company to help design the skates that they used that night.

A few months before Usher showed the world how amazing his skills were on wheels, James Adams, founder of Twin Cities Skaters, was showing Minnesota his love of skating, too.  According ot MPR, he started sharing that joy during the pandemic through pop-up events.  In May of 2024, that joy blossomed as he opened up a roller skating rink, Twin Cities Skater Studios, in the old CB2 furniture store in the Uptown area of Minneapolis.

Twin Cities Skater Studios Just Announced It Is Closing in 2025

A lot of change is happening in the Uptown area.  Cub Foods closed in June due to "needed repairs".  LA Fitness is supposed to close on August 30th in that area.  Now, it appears that another shift is happening.

Based on what I just read on Bring Me The News and on Instagram, the Twin Cities Skater Studios at 3045 Hennepin Ave. S. will also be shuttering soon.

We were invited to this location in uptown for a good time, not a long one. We do not know our next steps, best advice is to just follow us.

We greatly appreciate anyone who has contributed to this project. Thank you TCS Community! 💜💚🖤
Now it's time to party like it's 1999 🕺🏽
October 5th will be our last day of service in the old CB2 building. - @twincitiesskaters on Instagram

Hopefully, a new location can be found for the Twin Cities Skaters Studio so this joy can continue!
