A form of currency that had a huge high in the 1960s is getting the axe at a Minnesota-based store.  This is your heads up that if you rely on this type of currency to pay for items, I know change is hard but you don't have a choice.

Minnesota-Based Target Making Big Change At All Stores Including In Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin

In the world of Apple Pay and just tapping credit cards on machines to transfer cash, dollars and coins are rarely used.  Ask a teenager how to write a check and they will probably say something like, "bruh, is that something you used back in the 1900s?".  Actually, we did.  In fact, the number of checks that people used to buy items increased from 4 billion in 1940 to an astonishing 13 billion just 20 years later.

People loved their checks!  You could get them embossed, have special photos on them, pick your own fonts, and even get different colors.  You also got that little booklet that helped you balance your checkbook.  Some people loved doing this and others...never even opened it.  (I am one of those that never opened it.)

If you've got a checkbook in your purse and you are planning on writing "Target" in that "To" line on your next Target Run, you'll have to hurry.  According to CBSNews.com, the last day Target will take your personal check at the registers is July 15th, 2024.

Can You Still Write a Check To Pay For Your Credit Card at Target?

From a few sources, it sounds like you can pay your Red Card, Target's credit card, by check if you mail lit in.  If you go to the store to pay your bill, your check will not be accepted as payment for that.

As of right now, there aren't any official statements on Target's website indicating this change.  If Target releases any additional details regarding payments for Red Cards and it is different than what has been stated, I'll have the update on my Facebook page - Jessica On The Radio.

Is It True That Target Isn't The First Company To Move Away From Check Payments At Registers?

Before the world freaks out and starts to say things like, "I can't believe Target won't let me write a check", they aren't the first company to take this stance.  According to the Aldi website, checks are not a payment they accept.

Whole Foods is another location where checks are not listed as an approved form of payment.
