75% of people traveling in the United States this summer indicated that the open road was how they would reach their destination, according to Fox Weather.  And unless you've got a short destination or a Tesla, you are going to have to make a stop at a gas station at some point.  Before you hop out of the car and head inside to the gas station, check out this list of 12 items that you should avoid buying during that pit stop.

Before your next stop at a gas station, you may be to browse the list below because Finance.Yahoo just released a list of 12 items that you should avoid buying at gas stations.  Typically, the reason is because the price at a gas station is inflated quite a bit due to the factor of being convenient.

Unless you've got a Tesla, you are probably making a trip to the gas station a few times a month. When you open that front door of the store though, the temptation to buy is everywhere! But according to a few experts, there are 12 items you should avoid buying when you are stopping at a gas station.

Chowhound published another list of items to avoid at a gas station that include a few more specifics including:

  • slushies - based on a report by York Daily Record, gas stations tend to have issues with the soda machines, ice machines, and slushie machines.  Meaning, mold, mildew, and other harmful items have been reported on these areas due to a lack of cleaning properly.
  • nachos - it is difficult for these establishments to keep the cheese sauce at the necessary temperature
  • hot dogs - most of the rollers for the hot dogs at gas stations lack sneeze-guards or a way to protect the food from outside elements.  It is also difficult to regulate the temperature for this food item to ensure it is safe.  Plus, you have no idea when those hot dogs were placed on that roller.
