
United South Central Softball Edges Randolph
It was a pitcher's duel for the ages between two of the best fastpitch softball pitchers in Minnesota. Mariah Anderson with United South Central and Carter Raymond of the Randolph Rockets.
The game was scoreless in the bottom of the 9th inning in Wells when the Rebels Anderson hit a single knocking in the winning run and giving the top ranked Class 1A United South Central a win over defending Class 2A Champion Randolph.
Barring an upset USC will also win the Gopher Conference championship.
Anderson struck out 19 Rockets while Raymond fanned 13 Rebels.
United South Central had 3 hits, Randolph 4 hits in the thriller.
Raymond and Ruby Heiman each had a pair of hits for Randolph and Raymond swiped two bases. The Rockets finished with four stolen bases but couldn't get the timely hit to produce a score.
Both pitchers gave up 3 walks in the game. Anderson threw 133 pitches, 101 strikes. Raymond tallied 87 pitches, 70 strikes.
Each team had one error. The run scored was not earned.
Randolph fell to 18-1. United South Central is now 18-1.
In another Gopher Conference contest Bethlehem Academy scored a 1-0 win over Hayfield on the road Monday.
Morgan Wilson struck out 14 Vikings, allowed one hit with one walk. She threw 94 pitches, 72 strikes. Fellow senior Liv Glumack clubbed the game winning hit scoring Anna Cohen in the 6th inning,
The Cardinals had 3 hits off Elaina Masching who struck out eight and walked none. Masching threw 85 pitches, 59 strikes.
The Cannon Falls Bombers baseball team wrapped up the Hiawatha Valley League title with a 5-1 victory at John Burch Park in Cannon Falls.
It was the Bombers 15th straight win after starting the season 0-3.
Jack Meyers threw a three hitter with 6 strikeouts, 2 walks, tossing 90 pitches, 64 strikes.
Head Coach Bucky Lindow pointed out some stellar defensive plays were turned in by Tyler Meyers at third base, Ryan Hjellming at second base and Ethan Deutsch in right field that were key in the victory.
The Bombers had four stolen bases.
Cannon Falls collected 6 hits and 1 error. Pine Island finished with 3 errors.
Preston Schoenfelder smacked two singles and scored twice at the top of the Bombers batting order. Jack Meyers had two hits, Tyler Meyers a double and Ethan Deutsch two hits.
Kenyon-Wanamingo defeated Triton 7-2 in Dodge Center in a game broadcast on KDHL.
Gunner Kennedy allowed 3 hits with 1 walk, 5 strikeouts throwing 89 pitches 59 strikes.
Kenyon-Wanamingo cranked out 11 hits led by Reed Sommer with 2 hits, one RBI, one stolen base. Tanner Hedeen scored two runs, Owen Craig clubbed two doubles, Owen Edwards had two hits.
Cohen Mcneilus pitched the whole game for Triton throwing 93 pitches, 62 strikes, with 4 strikeouts, 3 walks/
Our Mcneilus Steel Cobras of the game were the three players with hits, Austin Scanlan, Theo Kispert, and Mason Bills.
Triton falls to 7-9, Kenyon-Wanamingo improved to 5-8.
The Cobras entertain Waseca Thursday. K-W hosts United South Central Thursday and is back on the radio Friday at home against Chatfield.
