Randolph Rockets senior pitcher Carter Raymond is the reigning Gatorade Softball Player of the Year in Minnesota.

A great crowd in Randolph Saturday got to see first hand why.  Raymond fanned 17 LaCrescent batters in a 7-0 win in the morning.

Then achieved 13 strikeouts in the afternoon against neighbors Cannon Falls in a 1-0 victory.

Friday night Raymond became the 6th player to hit the 1,000 strikeout milestone in state history in a 6-2 win over #5 rated Caledonia.

The Warriors managed 5 hits including 3 doubles.  Raymond recorded 15 strikeouts with no walks and threw 91 pitches 76 for strikes.

Caledonia did not help themselves with 5 errors while the Rockets did not commit an error.  Randolph clubbed 6 hits including a 2 RBI double by Ruby Heiman among her two hits.

Raymond also tallied two hits and a stolen base.

The top ranked, 18-0 defending Class 2A State Champions continued their tough schedule with a pair of top section opponents coming to their Silk Field which drew lots of fans.

They were not disappointed.

KDHL was there to broadcast the Cannon Falls vs LaCrescent and Cannon  Falls vs. Randolph games which were both high intensity contests.

The Bombers got a walk-off 3-2 win over LaCrescent, after the Lancers had taken a 2-1 lead in the top of the 7th inning.

In the bottom of the inning Allie Pagel started with a 2-2 count single .  Leanna Gomes executed a sacrifice bunt.  Designated Player Sophia Nerison hit a 0-2 count single plating Pagel. Addison Miller went into the game to run for Nerison.

#9 batter in the order Claire Meyers was hit by a pitch.

Mya Menge delivered a solid single to win the game.  Menge had scored the Bombers first run in the 6th inning after being hit by a pitch to start the inning she stole second base.

A wild pitch placed Menge at 3rd, and she scored on a RBI single by Avery Rustad.

LaCrescent brought left handed pitcher Maliah Moldenhauer in the 6th inning following five innings of 2 hit pitching by starting right hander Addie Murilla.

Cannon Falls started Emma Templin, who went the first 6 and 1/3 innings before giving way to Allie Pagel.

The Lancers scored their first run in the 3rd inning when their lead-off hitter stroked a double was sacrificed to 3rd band scored on a suicide squeeze.

Pagel got the win by retiring the final two batters with a potential run stranded at third base.

Templin gave up 4 hits while throwing 84 pitches, 52 strikes with 2 strikeouts, 1 walk, 1 hit batter.

Pagel hurled 9 pitches, 6 strikes to two batter faced.

The Bombers then took on Raymond and the Rockets.

Pagel went the distance for Cannon Falls allowing 7 hits, throwing 58 pitches, 40 strikes with 3 strikeouts, no walks.

Raymond fanned 13 Bombers, walked one, gave up a lone single in the the top of the 4th inning on a first pitch changeup to Anna Ritz,

The Rockets started the bottom of the 4th with a hit to center by Mya Preston that went nearly to the fence.  Ritz couldn't catch the ball but she threw a dart to second base to throw out Preston.

The next batter, Ella Banks stroked a line drive to left field that glanced off the glove of Rihanna Gomes and she threw Banks out at second base.

In the top of the 7th inning Randolph right fielder Kylee Carey made two outstanding catches to keep the Bombers off the bases.

We may have seen a preview of a Section One final around the first week of June.
