ST. CLOUD (WJON News) -- There's a unique way for you to give back to the community.

The United Way of Central Minnesota is hosting its 3rd annual Time for Art event on Wednesday, May 15th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Gnarly Bard Theater in downtown St. Cloud.

Attendees get to 'purchase' art by bidding volunteer hours instead of dollars.

Community Engagement Manager Casey Krafnick says winning bidders don't get to take their artwork home until they've completed their promised volunteer hours.

We have it on display in our office, so when people come in and out for meetings it's a really cool talking piece.  When an art piece goes home there's a plaque that goes up on the wall indicating what was there and what it generated for our community.

Last year's event had 33 donated pieces that sparked 257 hours of volunteerism.

Krafnick says the evening will be very casual.

There will be live music and light snacks.  Gnarly Bard has a license to sell adult beverages.  It's very casual.  If there's a piece that you are really eyeing, you might have to stick around because bidding will stop at 7:00 p.m.

Winning bidders will have one year to complete their volunteer hours and receive their artwork.
