Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Controversial 6th Ward Rochester City Council member Molly Dennis has lost her bid for a second term.

Dennis by the lowest vote total in Tuesday's primary election and will not advance to the general election in November. Voters selected Dan Doering and Mark Schluesner to face off in November. Doering was the top vote getter in the 6th Ward race with support from 39% of those who participated in the primary election. Schluesner was second with 27% of the vote, followed by Becca Dyer Tesch at about 19% and Dennis with 14% of the vote.

Current 5th Ward Councilmember Shaun Palmer attracted the most votes in the City Council President race. The unofficial results show he had 45% of the vote, with Randy Schubring coming in second and also advancing to the general election with 43% of the vote. Dean Koutsoukos had 11% of the vote in the citywide contest to succeed current City Council President Brooke Carlson.

Nick Miller and Tripp Welch will face each other in the November election to decide who will succeed 2nd Ward Councilmember Mark Bransford. Miller won just under 44% of the vote in Tuesday's primary, with Welch getting the 28%. Breanna Bly was supported by 20% of the voters and Loring Stead attracted 8% of the vote.

In the 4th Ward primary, incumbent Kelly Rae Kirkpatrick was the top vote getter with 47% support. Andy Friedrichs also advanced to the November election by winning 45% of the vote, while Cory Sorgenfie attracted 7% of the vote.

There was also a primary election for a position on the Olmsted County Board of Commissioners. Incumbent Gregg Wright and April Sutor advanced to the general election. Wright's reelection bid was backed by 38% of the voters while Suter won the support of just over 31% of the voters. Karl Johnson came in at 30%, but his vote total was just 26 below Sutor's total.

Two Republican candidates also faced off in Tuesday's primary election to decide who will advance and run against Democrat Tina Liebling for one of Rochester's State House seats. Dan Sepeda was the victor with 57% of the vote compared to just under 43% for Jesse O'Driscoll.
