Rochester Man Sentenced For Brutal Assault And Armed Robbery
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man accused of a violent mini-crime spree in Rochester is headed to prison.
40-year-old Bobby Booth was charged with an assault on a man at the Rochester Salvation Army in February and robbing a man at gunpoint the following day. He originally faced charges of first-degree aggravated robbery, third-degree assault, and a felony count of fifth-degree assault.
According to the criminal complaints, Booth was accused of punching a man and knocking him unconscious after the victim attempted to intervene in an altercation at the Salvation Army. The charges indicated the attack was recorded on a surveillance camera video and it shows Booth repeatedly punching the victim in the face, even after he had fallen to the ground.
The court document says the video also captured Booth beginning to walk away, before he returned and kicked the other man while he was lying motionless on the floor. Rochester police reported that the victim suffered six broken ribs, a broken nose, a broken collarbone, and a broken orbital bone in his face.
The criminal complaint stemming from the robbery says that Booth took a duffel bag filled with approximately $1300 in cash and other property after confronting a man at gunpoint outside a southwest Rochester hotel. The charges stated that Booth was wearing a face mask and holding a gun when he demanded money from the victim before he tackled the other man and wrestled the duffel bag away from him.
Booth earlier worked out a plea agreement in the case and admitted to a third-degree assault charge. The other charges, including an aggravated robbery charge, were dismissed.
He was sentenced today to 30 months in prison with credit for 235 days he has already served in jail.
