The deadly knife attack, that also wounded four other people, occurred on the Apple River near Somerset, WI on July 30 of 2022.
17-year-old Isaac Schuman of Stillwater lost his life as a result of the stabbing.
In April, a St. Croix County Jury convicted 54-year-old Nikola Miu of one count of reckless homicide, four counts of recklessly endangering safety and one count battery.
The prosecution argued the Prior Lake man initiated the violent confrontation among the tubers. The defense argument, which included Mui testifying in court, tried to persuade jurors that Miu was attacked by the teenagers and that the stabbing was an act of self-defense.
Minnesota Man To Serve 20 Years in Prison for Fatal Stabbing of Stillwater Teen on Apple River
Miu was sentenced on Wednesday morning to 20 years in prison for the homicide conviction. He received a six year prison sentence for one of the recklessly endangering public safety convictions and five years in prison for each of the three other counts of the same crime.
The judge ordered Miu to serve the prison sentences concurrently. He's also ordered to serve six years of supervised release and five years supervised release for each of the recklessly endangering public safety convictions.
Miu was handed the sentence after giving a brief statement in which he apologized to Shuman’s family. Victim impact statements were also read into the record at the hearing.
