All three of the men involved are in their 20’s. Minneapolis Police responded to the incident around 3:30 Friday afternoon.

A news release says the shooting occurred in the 2400 block of Golden Valley Rd. Officers dispatched to that area found a man laying in an alley suffering from a gunshot wound.

He had a two-year-old with him who appeared to be unharmed. The preliminary investigation indicates the dead man and a second man, identified as 21-year-old Darnell Cornelius Lewis, approached the Mercedes when gunfire erupted.

The Mercedes then fled the scene and appeared to have been damaged by gunfire, the news release says. Lewis was arrested following the shooting. The name of the deceased man and Mercedes driver has not been released.

Investigators are still working to determine if gunshots were fired from the Mercedes. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara indicates multiple firearms were recovered at the scene.

“I am grateful for the outstanding police work of our responding Minneapolis Police Officers,” said O’Hara.  “They took quick action and attempted to save a life while also making an arrest of a gunman and recovering handguns.”
