Minnesota Man Caught With Cache of Guns and Explosives Convicted
Albert, MN (KROC-AM News) - A southern Minnesota jury has returned a guilty verdict against an Albert Lea man on a list of charges stemming from an incident that led to the evacuation of the Freeborn County Government Center last Summer.
48-year-old Adam Alan Pennhollow was charged last July with felony counts of fleeing police, drug possession, possession of an explosive device, and possession of a firearm suppressor. His criminal complaint also listed gross misdemeanor charges of DWI, possession of ammunition and/or any firearm, and driving after revocation.
According to the court document, the government center in Albert Lea was evacuated after a homemade pipe bomb was discovered in a locked safe that was found in Penhollow's vehicle after he led an Albert Lea police officer on a brief chase on the afternoon of July 5, 2024.
The charges stated that the chase began after an officer witnessed a possible fight outside a Walmart pharmacy and watched as a man drove away in a small SUV. The officer indicated that he recognized Penhollow as the driver and was aware that his drivers license had been revoked.
According to the criminal complaint, the officer spotted baggies containing white residue in the vehicle after arresting Penhollow and obtained a search warrant for blood and urine samples due to suspicion that he was driving while impaired. The locked gun safe was also found in the SUV and was transported to the government center, where it was opened and it was discovered that it held the pipe bomb along with 9 grams of methamphetamine.

That led to the execution of a search warrant at Penhollow's residence, where the charges say investigators found a variety of guns, including a stockless rifle with a sawed-off barrel and a sound suppressor. Investigators also reported seizing two explosive devices and a partial home-built submachine gun.
Penhollow was found guilty today of all of the charges against him. He is scheduled to be sentenced in late March.
