LOOK: 2024’s Major Road Projects in Southeast Minnesota
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Although the weather would suggest otherwise, construction season has not yet arrived in Minnesota.
Minnesota's typical construction season begins in April and wraps up in November. Motorists in the Rochester area have been in the thick of the roadwork in recent years, mainly thanks to the Hwy. 52 reconstruction project that was completed over three seasons.
MnDOT says work on the major roadway will continue during the 2024 season, however the final stretch of the major project will be located closer to the Twin Cities Metro.
Work on another major project on Hwy. 52 is on the docket this year, however this one is taking place south of Rochester. A multi-year project to rebuild the I-90/Hwy. 52 interchange got started with tree removal earlier this month.

MnDOT often offers safety tips for motorists navigating workzones. Those tips include:
- Find up-to-date information about traffic and road conditions at 511mn.org or get the free smartphone app at Google Play or the App Store
- Expect delays, especially during peak travel times
- Go hands-free and minimize other distractions (e.g., don’t eat or drink while driving)
- Follow posted speed limits; the fine for speeding in a work zone is $300
- Avoid making lane changes within work zones
